I started using Accounting without entering my opening Balances. Can I add my Balances now or do I need to start all over again?

I recently had a credit put on my Visa. When I enter my transaction I made a credit CN+. Then I enter the credit in the CN- to start to reduce the credit, but it is showing as income. How do I stop this from happening?
