Laurel, in the reports console you have several options on the right hand side of the screen for the particulars about any of the reports. For the income and expense statement, you will see an option for Method and underneath that you can choose Accrual or Cash. The trial balance will always only be accrual. To see the GL's on a cash basis, you have to put a check mark in the box beside Cash which is found as one of the three options at the bottom of the screen on the right hand side of the reports console.
