How do I post a cash purchase example if I pay for dinner for a client and want to post that to the company?

I was told to use the PD account instead of Petty Cash. Same procedure as Steve has indicated; $0 in top half, expense dinner to Meals and then balance transaction with a PD. We are a partnership, not INC but not sure if that would make a difference
