Hi - question about creating an accountants copy - once I do this...I can work ahead on my 2022 transactions correct? If I need to go back to make an amendment in 2021, and undo the accountants copy...do all my 2022 entries still remain? And in order to continue back in 2022 I'd have to create an accounts copy again?
Hi there - Yes, but not a complete yes.
As long as you add the 2022 year to your file before you create the accountant's copy you will be able to go ahead and make entries into the 2022 year. If you don't add that year before you create the accountant's copy then the fiscal year's add button is locked and greyed out. So just make sure to add the year before you initiate the accountant's copy process.
If you undo the accountant's copy then you will be able to go back and make changes to 2021 and yes, all of your 2022 entries will remain. The downside of the undo function is that it also invalidates the accountant's copy you created. Which means that if the accountant sends back changes for you to import from the original accountant's copy, you won't be able to import them.
If you undo and then create the accountant's copy again, the most important thing to maintain the function of the process is that you send the new accountant's copy to your accountant, ask them to discard the previous one and use the new one to make any changes they need to make. If you do that then everything will line up and you'll be able to import work they completed on your behalf. The downside is that it may require them to re-do work in the new copy that they may have already completed using the original version you sent them, but as long as they're willing you shouldn't have any problems importing their changes when the time comes.
