why is it that on pay stubs under YTD the total includes advances ? This makes it confusing for the employee when he gets his T4 box 14 does not match his December pay stub.
Hi Jody,
I hope these two reasons will bring some clarification.
1. The pay stub is mostly used to track the transactions between the employee and the employer, while the T4 is used externally (CRA) to reflect the salary that was actually paid including the deductions.
2. Advances are not deductible, since they are not necessarily repaid using salaries, until then, they won’t be considered as such. Therefore, advances shouldn’t be part of the T4. The difference between the total YTD and box 14 is equal to the advances.
