We have used AgExpert for years, but have done cost of production separately. What would be the best way to set up AgExpert to calculate for cost of production of several different grains and oilseeds? Also can Field Manager and AgExpert integrate at all?
Hi Cheryl!
Wow, what a question! Cost of production is located in AgExpert Analyst. You can use this feature to get your cost to produce your current year crop or livestock per tonne/bushel/head etc.
To access this feature, you will go to Management > Operational Benchmarking. Cost of Production is the last option on the left-hand side.
Setting up cost of production has several different steps.
1) Click on the link that says Edit list. Here, you will set up the different commodities that you want to track cost of production for.
2) Click on Assign expense accounts. This will give you a list of any expenses available in your chart of accounts. You need to make sure that the appropriate accounts are mapped to the right expense category, so that all the expenses you want to take into consideration are taken into account.
3) Click on Allocate Commodities. This is a screen that shows all available postings for Production and Expenses. There isn't much to do on the production side, but your expenses can be allocated to your commodities through this screen, by amount or by percentage.
In the end, based on production, you should get your cost of production.
Field Manager Pro's integration is really rather minimal. You can import production (harvests) from Field Manager Pro, but that's really the extent of it.
I know that this is a very condensed summary of cost of production. It gets more in-depth and detailed than I have posted here, but to describe each step would take far more time and room that most people would be willing to read!! I would start by just making sure that everything is created and mapped correctly. And as you come across any questions, let us know, either here on the forums, or by calling our toll-free number!
Thanks!!
