This is a payroll question. at the end of Dec 2014 AG Expert showed that I owed CRA $750. however because our yea rend was November 30 and I hadn't started a new year, Since I needed to send a cheque to CRA at end of December I did a quick manual calculation adding up the employee deductions but I forgot to add in the employers CPP portion. So now when I try to do a remittance for December, in my new year, it shows I owe $750, but I only wrote a cheque for $550. I have searched to see if I can make an adjusting entry without changing 2014 entries, but can't see how to do I make the remittance for only $550 and leave the $200 balance owing. hope that made sense.

    Hi Kathleen!

I assume that the second question posted was you as well!

You technically still owe that $200.00 to CRA, whether you paid it or not. The $550 cheque that you wrote to them would be applied as a payable payment against the CRA payroll remittance of $750, leaving an outstanding balance of $200. A separate cheque can then be written to take care of this balance owing to CRA. You cannot change the remittance itself without changing the payroll in the system - and since that does not match reality, you don't want to do that. No adjustments are necessary - leave the $200 outstanding, and pay off the remaining owing amount at a later date. This is absolutely fine.

If I am misunderstanding anything, please let me know and I can elaborate more! Thanks!
